Craiglist is the go-to website to find new apartments. You can expect almost every available rental listing is posted on Craigslist. With the never ending listing submissions flowing through the site, your posting gets pushed further down the list. Certain listings get more clicks than others, getting them off the market faster. Learn what the formula is for a “good” subject line and elements what you should avoid.
Tip #1: Unnecessary symbols.
Some rental agents or brokers use or symbols like a star or crown to draw renters’ attention. Symbols are distracting, and don’t communicate anything about your rental unit. It can make your subject line look immature and sloppy.
Tip #2: Missing information.
Craigslist gives you fields to fill out when posting a listing. Nothing shows carelessness more than failure to fill out the provided fields. Entering in the number of bedrooms helps bring up your listing when renters use Craigslist’s filters. If rental searchers turn on these filters, your listing will not come up if you don’t fill out these fields.
When there isn’t information on how many bedrooms there are or, even worse, when there are no pictures, you’re making it easier for rental hunters to decide to skip over your listing.
Tip #3: ALL CAPS.
It can’t be emphasized enough how distracting and ineffective all caps is. When phrases and sentences are typed in all capitalized letters, it’s more difficult to read for potential renters. You do not want unreadable subject lines. Also, when there are multiple listings clustered together use capital letters, it becomes visually overwhelming. Rental hunters may find themselves skipping your listing for something that’s more readable. Use the Craigslist subject line best practices to help increase ad clicks.
